Rock and Slope Stability

CAWDOR QUARRY, GEOMORPHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

The key to success for any geotechnical appraisal is to ensure that sufficient information is gathered to allow a realistic model of site conditions to be produced. This clearly includes not only the gathering of robust site investigation data and geometry but for slope and rock stability appraisals, the collation of geomorpological data is also of crucial importance.

To aid the overall rock stability appraisal at this site in Matlock, Debyshire, Discovery CE carried out a detailed inspection of the rock faces Measurements of dip and dip direction were recorded on the visible and persistent limestone bedding planes, some of which were associated with clay infill and water seepages. This allowed the likely failure mechanisms to be identified and reliably assessed.

CEMEX CEMENT WORKS, RUGBY

Discovery CE employ Civil Engineers and Engineering Geologists with a wealth of expertise in all aspects of Geotechnics including slope stability analysis and assessment.

Site constraints often result in new developments being constructed close to the crest of marginally stable slopes such as this development at Cemex Cement works in Rugby.

An analysis showed that the proposed loads from the new structure would potentially destabilise the slope and

Discovery CE designed a piling scheme to mitigate this risk.
