An Intrusive Investigation as well as Load Testing was proposed by DCE to our client Volkswagen who owned the site at Blackpool Road in Preston. It seemed relatively straight forward, but as they say “nothing ever goes according to plan”. How can a simple Zone Test go wrong!?
Well…for starters different sized testing weights and a partially blocked entrance…However, we at DCE are always up for the challenge, armed with a trusty ratchet hoist (not forgetting the hard hat) we were off to work. The operation involved providing a distributed load across a large floor area to model live loading during service. Our team were to monitor slab movement under controlled conditions.
Paired with a years of experience in Tetris and Jenga we accomplished something Museum-Worthy (In the authors opinion at least).
